Aspire
Spinal injury charity Aspire was chosen as the WK Charity of the Year 2010 and several fundraising initiatives have been organised throughout the year by staff members and our twelve strong voluntary charity committee.
Aspire, www.aspire.org.uk , is a national disability charity that provides a nationwide network of practical support of people with spinal cord injury, stretching from their first day in hospital through to their full re-integration into society. This is achieved through a range of projects including specially adapted houses, IT facilities and training, practical advice and grants for
special equipment.
Wilkins Kennedy LLP fundraising events have included: Wheelchair basketball, quizzes, a cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats, three Three Peaks challenge and an iron man triathlon to name but a few!

The Wilkins Kennedy fundraising target of £25,000 has almost been reached, which will be enough to fully adapt and equip an Aspire House. This specially adapted accommodation is available short term for those who have been discharged from a spinal injury care centre and are able to live independently, but who are unable to move back to their homes until modifications have taken place.
The Wilkins Kennedy Aspire House will be the 20th in the UK, and is a three-bedroom, ground floor flat in Islington, constructed in early 2010. The adaptations have been taking place over summer 2010, including rise and fall kitchen units, a wet room and raised power sockets.
Staff will assist with finals touches and assembling flat packed furniture and the accommodation will be ready for occupation in the autumn.
