Glasses raised to toast Rose Road!

The Rose Road Association, which provides vital services for children and young people with profound and complex disabilities across Hampshire and surrounding counties, held a Charity Reception at the prestigious Hotel Du Vin in Winchester on 1st October supported by Wilkins Kennedy Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers.

More than 50 guests enjoyed a drinks reception in the lovely surroundings of the Hotel and walled garden. The event was an opportunity for Rose Road to say thank you to the Winchester Music Club and Winchester Cathedral for the wonderful donation and support they received through the concert held with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa last year.

Speakers included the Right Reverend the Bishop of Winchester Michael Scott-Joynt and Ian Talbot, trustee and parent at Rose Road and Partner at Wilkins Kennedy.

Heather Aspinall, Chief Executive at Rose Road, said “it really was a special evening and everyone had a wonderful time, as they did in May of last year when Dame Kiri gave such a stunning performance. The support we receive from supporters such as Winchester Music Club, Hotel du Vin and Wilkins Kennedy is extremely important, without which we would find it very hard to continue our work”.

Ian Talbot, Rose Road Trustee, and Partner at Wilkins Kennedy, said, “We had a wonderful evening at the Charity Reception and I would like to thank all our fundraisers for their continued support for the Rose Road Association. The staff works extremely hard to provide vital services for children and young adults with disabilities across Hampshire, and we are determined to reach our fundraising target this year.”

The event was also an opportunity to update guests on the Change My Life Appeal, which aims to raise £500,000 towards a range of key services and initiatives. Many hundreds of people have already contributed to the Appeal through community fundraising and donations, with the aim of reaching the challenging target by the spring of 2010.

The Rose Road Association
Changing the lives of young disabled people

Over the past 57 years, the Rose Road Association has worked with many hundreds of young people from across Hampshire and the south of England. The young people who attend Rose Road have complex and multiple disabilities, requiring a range of specialist care and equipment. We work with young people aged from 2 up to 25 years.

Rose Road also provides support and information and believes passionately in valuing individuals, respecting their choices and celebrating their achievements.
In order to carry out our work the money raised through our fundraising activities makes a vital difference and helps to pay for transport, therapy and all of the other services which are so important, as well as helping our young people to enjoy themselves and have fun!

A year after launching Change My Life we have been able to do so much, providing music therapy sessions and specialist equipment through to wonderful day trips and activity days which otherwise would not have been possible.

We are now setting ourselves a target to raise £500,000 to do more to support not just our young people but also the families and carers of those who attend Rose Road, benefiting from the innovative and creative opportunities we know make a real difference to our school, outreach and respite services.

Caring for a child with complex disabilities can be very challenging and the help and advice provided by the Association is often a lifeline for those who need our support.
