Running for Rose Road
They're hoping to raise a combined total of more than £10,000 for a Hampshire charity.
A team of five Hampshire runners will complete the Virgin London Marathon for the Rose Road Association.
Three of the team went along to the charity’s school in Southampton to sit in on an assembly and see how the money they raise will be used.
Chartered accountant Tony Brown from Winchester is taking part in the gruelling 26-mile marathon for the second time as his business partner, Ian Talbot, has a daughter who attends the school.
Tony, 48, from Winchester, said: “I’ve known Ian for about 30 years and I think from that the Rose Road Association has had a big impact on everyone who knows him and his family. Aside from the personal link, Rose Road is just such a worthwhile charity to run for anyway.”
Also taking part are Marc Cole, Frazer Gillies, Helen Middle and Eleanor Rees.
Marc, 34, who works for Plant Fix in Southampton, is running for the first time. He said: “Today was a real eye-opener and to see what they do was amazing, there’s so much effort and care that goes into helping those children.
“It’s unfortunate they have to do so much to raise money for it and I’m glad to have been given the opportunity to help.”
