School Enterprise Week in Kent: Egerton C.E Primary School Pupils’ Fantastic Fudge Sells Out in Minutes to Local Chartered Accountancy Firm
Last week, pupils from Egerton C.E Primary School were introduced to starting a business in an apprentice style workshop as part of School Enterprise Week.
Year 3 pupils Matthew, Lois and Megan, were given a seed capital of £50 and decided on a confectionery project. With the help of their parents and teachers they bought raw materials and made five flavours of fudge, which they brought to sell at the WK Finn-Kelcey offices in Ashford.
The fudge quickly sold out to staff at the accountancy firm, and the pupils made a profit of £100, part of a total profit of £350 raised over the last two weeks of term, to be split between Egerton School and national charity The Railway Children’s Society.
Ian McIntyre, Partner at WK Finn-Kelcey says, “This is an excellent way of introducing children to the idea of starting a business. It gives them an insight into how a business can work, and should prove an invaluable experience, hopefully one of Lois, Megan or Matthew will be an Alan Sugar of the future”.
