Wilkins Kennedy announces Aspire as charity of the year

Leading chartered accountants and business advisers Wilkins Kennedy have chosen spinal injury charity Aspire as their Charity of the Year for 2010.

The top 25 accountancy firm is planning several fundraising events to raise £25,000 over the next year, which will fund the adaptation and conversion of an Aspire house. Aspire currently operates 19 houses across the UK, providing temporary accommodation for service users suffering from spinal cord injury, whilst adaptations are being carried out to their own homes.

Aspire supports people after their spinal cord injury to ensure they live a fulfilled and independent life. They provide a nationwide network of support for people with spinal cord injuries stretching from the first day in hospital through to their full integration into society. Aspire undertakes a variety of projects including adapted accessible houses, specialist computer equipment, practical advice and grants.

Fundraising events planned across the Wilkins Kennedy offices include a cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats, walks across the UK, a parachute jump and a mountain climbing challenge.

Alex Rankin, Aspire’s Head of Services, says, “Our work supporting people with spinal injury is dependent on fundraising efforts of companies across the UK, and the new Aspire house funded by Wilkins Kennedy will make a huge difference to many families on their journey to independence.”

Colin Wiseman, Managing Partner of Wilkins Kennedy, says, “We have already set up an in house voluntary charity committee who are dedicated to fundraising for this worthy cause. We are looking forward to achieving our target of £25,000 which will go towards improving the lives of those affected by spinal injury and their families.”
