Wilkins Kennedy duo skydive raising £3000 for Myeloma UK
Wilkins Kennedy Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers in Egham is pleased to announce that two staff members, Jemima Jones, a qualified chartered tax adviser and chartered accountant and Sarah Kelly, a trainee accountant, have taken part in a skydive raising almost ￡3,000 in aid of Myeloma UK.
Jemima, from Virginia Water, has worked for Wilkins Kennedy for over 5 years, and has been particularly affected by myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer, as her father was diagnosed with the disease in December 2008 and received a stem cell transplant. Her mother is the Surrey representative for the charity, and offers support and hosts regular meetings for families and individuals affected by myeloma.
Close friend of the family, Sarah, who lives in Chertsey, is working towards her ACA qualification and has been with the firm for just over a year.
The skydive took place at RAF Weston-on-the-Green in Oxfordshire, with a total of 25 people from different workplaces all fundraising for Myeloma UK. The small plane containing five people ascended to 13,000 ft and the girls each jumped with an instructor, spending 40 seconds in freefall, and a further 4 minutes parachuting to the ground.
Jemima said, “When I found out about the opportunity and asked Sarah if she was interested in taking part, she didn’t need any persuading! We were both very nervous on the day but the jump was really exhilarating. We are delighted to have raised almost ￡3,000 for the charity, with ￡700 being donated by Wilkins Kennedy staff in the Egham and Guildford offices, so a huge thank you to everyone who supported us.”
Sarah said, ” I was really motivated by raising money for Myeloma UK, and after asking friends and colleagues for donations, we managed to raise our primary fundraising target of ￡500 in the first two days. I really enjoyed the experience and would definitely do it again!”
