Wilkins Kennedy to sponsor Highworth Grammar School Breakin' Hearts Dance Crew, runner-up National Street Dance Champions

Wilkins Kennedy, a leading firm of Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers in Ashford, is pleased to announce their sponsorship of the Highworth Grammar School Breakin’ Hearts Dance Crew.

Ashford office accountancy partner Mike Swan received a letter and sample DVD from the school regarding the talented street dance crew, and after watching the DVD with his daughters, was so impressed that he and office partner Kim Farrington contacted the school to offer their support.

The 12-member crew was first formed in 2007, and currently consists of ten girls and two boys aged from 13-18, competing both regionally and nationally in street dance competitions.

Sony Ericsson selected Breakin’ Hearts for a promotional campaign and Dancer Ajay “BBboy AJ “Jackson from the Soul Mavericks crew has since become their mentor and helped to train the team.

The crew won the 2009 London Breakin Battle last December and won Best Showcase and were overall Southern Heat winners in the southern qualifiers in Esher in Surrey earlier this year.

On Sunday 25th April they competed in the TruSkool Finals 2010, the National Schools Breakdance Battle at Stratford Circus (www.stratford-circus.co.uk ), in London endorsed and supported by the Sony Ericsson UK BBoy Championships.

Twelve dance crews attended from high schools all around the country, and Breakin’ Hearts won Best Showcase in the morning session and after taking part in battle rounds in the afternoon, came 2nd place overall, winning a glass trophy.

Seri Hodges, Head of Dance at Highworth Grammar School, says, “ We had a fantastic day out, it was very close at the end. Thanks to the Wilkins Kennedy sponsorship arrangement we were able to afford a new kit, and we are also able to continue the mentoring programme, which is really important to our members. I am very proud of the crew who work really hard practising every lunchtime and for two hours after school every Tuesday.”

Mike Swan, Partner in the Wilkins Kennedy Ashford Office, says, “Supporting schools and the local community is very important to us, we are looking forward to a long term arrangement with the crew, supporting their primary schools community outreach programme and the summer school dance academy. We are really pleased they achieved such a fantastic result in the national competition finals.”

The community outreach programme involves giving day intensive instruction at local primary schools and the school is also setting up a weeklong summer school dance programme “Breakin Edge” which starts on 2nd August. Open to anyone between the ages of 10-18, tickets cost £30 and the programme will be delivered by Ajay Jackson and 2 other crewmembers.
