Capital Allowances
Capital allowances can be are a valuable form of tax relief particularly with regards to regeneration projects. It is imperative that these reliefs be considered early on in a deal in order to extract maximum benefit. The most common and widely available reliefs are plant and machinery allowances, covering a diverse range of items.
Capital allowances become available when:
- a commercial property is purchased for occupation or investment
- refurbishment of an existing property is undertaken
Regeneration projects
Allowances are available for expenditure incurred during the conversion of upper storeys of commercial buildings into flats. These allowances are available as part of urban regeneration schemes. Similar allowances are available to the redevelopment of brown sites or previously contaminated sites
