Accounts Manager
Newbury

Reporting to the Partners, this position is designed to provide a broad but high level of client service to clients, primarily owner managed businesses including sole traders, companies and partnerships. You will be responsible for your own portfolio of clients and will be responsible for sharing the management, training and development of the accounts team.

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for a client portfolio as assigned by the Partners
  • Managing a team to ensure the efficient preparation of accounts for a variety of clients
  • Carry out review work on accounts and other assignments prepared by team members
  • Delegate analysis work to more junior staff and monitor progress, including reviewing work once complete
  • Responsible for training and development of trainees within the team
  • Travelling to client premises as required and to deal with clients in a professional manner either in person, telephone or by email
  • To attend client meetings
  • Providing advice to clients on a broad spectrum of accounting and tax matters
  • Ensure client engagement documentation is up to date
  • Drafting of invoices to clients and to chase outstanding invoices
  • Regular review of client WIP and debtors
  • Preparation of proposals for new work
  • Attendance at marketing events
  • Conducting mid-year and annual appraisals
  • Approval of staff annual leave and training requests
  • To advise and be involved in the recruitment process of new staff

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Qualified ACA/ACCA
  • Previous demonstrable practice experience
  • Experience in the preparation of financial statements
  • Experience of working with Sage 50 Accounts, Xero, QuickBooks and other accounting packages
  • Experience in the preparation of corporation tax computations and personal tax matters
  • Competent in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • To demonstrate clear written and verbal communication skills with both internal and external clients
  • To demonstrate the ability to make decisions, solve problems and take appropriate action
  • To understand the link between effective performance management and business results
  • Ability to deal confidently and positively with poor and underperformance issues
  • Ability to adapt leadership style for different team members
  • Ability to identify high calibre candidates and to be competent at interviewing
  • Ability to prioritise workload in order to achieve client accounting deadlines, as well as other day to day work
  • To demonstrate good timekeeping skills as well as displaying a professional attitude in all aspects of their work
