An accountancy firm in Southend has handed over the latest cheque to Havens Hospices, bringing the total for 2017 to more than £3,000 – and there is more fundraising planned to get to a £4,000 target.
Wilkins Kennedy’s Southend office, which acts for a number of businesses in the area, has already raised £5,500 in 2016 for Havens Hospices – the office’s chosen charity that works with children and adults in Essex with life-limiting illnesses.
The firm has agreed to support the charity for three years and staff and partners set themselves fundraising targets. During July 2017, they announced they were on track to “smash” their target for this year, raising £2,183 in six months.
Last month, they handed over a further £1,049 cheque following several fundraisers including a charity golf day, raising £400, and a dress down day, which raised £116. The total for 2017 currently stands at £3,067 and the firm hopes to raise £4,000 by the end of the year.
Paul East, Partner at Wilkins Kennedy’s Southend office, said: “We are really pleased with our progress so far and we hope the funds raised will prove to be extremely useful for the charity. We have been working closely with Havens Hospices for the last two years and we see the great work they do locally. There are a few events planned before the year is out and we hope to give it one last push to raise the extra cash.”
Lydia Plews, Corporate Fundraiser for Havens Hospices, said: “On behalf of Havens Hospices we would like to say a huge thank you to Wilkins Kennedy for their support. Each week Havens Hospices must raise £100,000 to provide the specialist care and support to patients and their families. This is only possible thanks to people and organisations in the community who fundraise for us and ensure we can continue caring and ‘making every day count’ for adults, children and families across Essex for as long as possible”.
