Wilkins Kennedy appoint new Banking and Finance specialist for London and North Thames

A Southern based business advisory and accounting firm has further bolstered its expertise in banking and finance consultancy thanks to a key appointment.

Mark Barrie, who has more than 20 years’ experience working in the corporate and commercial banking sector, has joined Wilkins Kennedy as Director of their banking and finance team across their London and North Thames regions.

Barrie will be serving businesses across locations including London, Reading, Bourne End, Amersham, Hertford and Southend on Sea.

He joins Wilkins Kennedy after nearly two decades at NatWest and RBS where he worked with thousands of SME businesses to access funding, analyse financial risks and overcome financial difficulty.

Barrie then set up his own consultancy three years ago – Integral Advisory Services - to support the growth of the South East SME business community before joining Wilkins Kennedy.

His new role will see him advising SME clients and non-clients on suitable ways to access traditional and alternative finance to support growth, expansion and restructuring whilst also assessing whether existing funding meets their needs.

He said: “This is a great opportunity for me to use all of my banking knowledge to help businesses maximise investment opportunities so that they can live up to their potential.

“Banks aren’t the only source of funding nowadays with lending from peer-to-peer and fintech companies also on the rise.

“While funding options are now much more varied it’s important that the terms are market facing and don’t end up hindering a business, which is why it’s important to have a trusted advisor in place to assist with this.

“Wilkins Kennedy being part of the Baldwins Group makes them a major player in the accountancy industry, and being able to use my expertise across a wider platform to more businesses means this felt like the perfect move.”

Tim Croft, Managing Partner of Wilkins Kennedy’s North Thames region, added: “Mark typifies the personnel we have on board at Wilkins Kennedy to support the region’s businesses while also being able to mentor our younger workforce.

“Decisions made regarding both the type and cost of funding can be critical to a business’ long-term success, so to have somebody as experienced as Mark on board is a real coup not just for us, but for the region’s businesses who can tap into his funding knowledge.

“He has expertise across key sectors such as retail, manufacturing, recruitment and property, demonstrating that he is able to support just about any business in need of funding support.”
